Sony Ericsson W880 leaks on T-Mobile

For our surprise, we just happened to spot an unknown Sony Ericsson mobile on the website of the Czech T-Mobile. A closer look at the photo, revealed that the device pictured highly resembled the Japanese Sony Ericsson W42s, as seen on the following pictures

An unknown Sony Ericsson mobile leaks on the T-Mobile web site
Sony Ericsson W42S for Japan, which looks a lot like the leaked W880 GSM model
To an even greater suprise the T-Mobile website designates the unknown device as W880. All the recent rumours of a would-be W880 spoke of an ultra-slim all-metallic handset which is just on the contrary with these findings.
Take a closer look at the interesting control button in the bottom of the device. It resembles more than anything the one seen in the Japanese W42S. It seems that the European division of Sony Ericsson has a nice new treat for the Walkman fans. The new device is suspected to be officially announced by the end of the year or at least at the 3GSM happening in Barcelona, February 2007.
Bear in mind that this is actually an information leakage, decided to share with you and not a real official announcement.

Sony Ericsson Black Diamond

blackdiamond.jpg

Singaporean industrial designer Jaren Goh's mocked up an extremely stylish concept for a Sony Ericsson cameraphone he's calling Black Diamond. The polycarbonate mirror finish skin, metal detailing and form factor are all rather sleek, but the coolest feature has got to be the OLED borderless screen. Very sexy!

These renders look like the old ones with a WM5 screenshot pasted on, and are supposed to illustrate what kind of crazy features this phone will have. Among them: 400MHz XScale PXA225 400MHz processor, WiFi, SD memory, 4 megapixel camera, SIP support, and a price tag of $300,000. Also, they're only making five of them.

blackdiamond-1.jpg
Not to be pessimistic, but the combination of crazy ass features—400MHz + 4 megapixel camera in that body makes what, 4 hours of battery life?—huge price tag, and limited production numbers make us think this is as much a pipe dream as Duke Nukem Forever making an Xmas 2006 release.

The new herald - HTC P4350

A new PocketPC by HTC is under way featuring a hardware QWERTY keyboard, a microSD memory card slot and a 2 megapixel camera. The new HTC P4350 is in a way a lite edition of the already available HTC TyTN based on the HTC Hermes platform and is in fact almost the same as Qtek 9100 based on the HTC Wizard platform. Since it is not fully identical to either of them, rumour has it, that the new P4350 is the first representative of the long awaited HTC Herald platform.

Just as Qtek 9100, the HTC P4350 has a TI OMAP 800 200MHz processor. There is a serious difference in size, though. The new P4350 is a good 6 mm thinner than Qtek 9100 and 4 mm thinner than HTC TyTN.

Otherwise, the new PocketPC features some standard equipment such as a large 2.8" touchscreen 65K colors TFT display with a QVGA resolution, 64MB RAM and 128MB ROM, quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE support, as well as Bluetooth 2.0, USB and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g. Both the Qtek 9100 and HTC P4350 don't have 3G UMTS support. As with most of the Windows Mobile 5.0, the P4350 makes use of nice office applications pack.

Currently, there is no official information on when the HTC P4350 PocketPC should be available on market.

Behold! The 1 GB SIM card from Samsung!

Samsung has just announced a huge, 1 GB S-SIM card that is slated to change the mobile phone market. Today’s high-end mobile phones carry two cards—a memory card and the standard SIM card—but now, the extra capacity on the new S-SIM card will replace the need for an extra memory-only card.

Photos, videos, music and other files can now be stored on the SIM card itself. This will remove the need to change a memory card when you switch to a different phone, which is a problem right now with the various memory card formats being adopted by different companies, such as MicroSD/TransFlash, Memory Stick Micro, MiniSD, MMC Micro, etc.

The new 1 GB S-SIM card utilizes System-in-Package (SiP) technology that enables it to carry the high-capacity NAND flash memory module without increasing the size of the standard SIM card. It supports the standard SIM interface, which makes it compatible with existing systems and also supports high-speed MMC and USB interfaces.

Motorola Q Pro 'Norman' Pictures Leaked

The upgrade to the RAZR-berry Motorola Q, the Q Pro a.k.a 'Norman', now has a face. The Windows Mobile Smartphone, rumored to have UMTS, HSDPA and WiFi capabilities, also has a 2-megapixel digital camera. LG Ties up With Schneider-Kreuznach

LG's Shine was the first phone from the Korean manufacturer to offer a great quality camera in conjunction with Schneider-Kreuznach, and LG has decided to take it one step further by teaming up with the German lens manufacturer for more. The 2 megapixel digital camera with the Schneider-Kreuznach lens on the LG Shine has received some good feedback, so this is a good step for LG. This is also the second time such an association has been formed, with the first one being Nokia, of course, tying up with Carl Zeiss for their Nseries multimedia phones.

Sony announces 007 Micro Vault USB drive

Looking to leave no corner of your gadget bag untouched by its license to cash in, Sony is following up its Bond-themed laptop/digital camera bundle with a 007-branded Micro Vault USB drive. Available in only a 1GB model (Q would definitely not approve), the drive sports a sleek piano black finish and comes pre-loaded with the Casio Royale movie trailer, as well as four 1,920 x 1,080 Bond-related wallpaper images. Other than that, however, it's a standard Sony flash drive, with the trademark retractable USB connector and Virtual Expander compression software to squeeze as much data as possible onto the drive. No word on how much of a premium it'll cost you over a regular Micro Vault, if any, but it should be available sometime before the movie's premiere later this month.

Upcoming Motorola L7e

Motorola unveiled the updated version of the popular Motorola L7. The new version is called Motorola L7e and features a number of upgrades. The mobile is to be available in metallic blue finish and offers a 1.3 megapixel camera. The menu interface has also got a face-lift and now it resembles the one used in Motorola KRZR. The new Motorola L7e also benefits from extended data communication capabilities, meaning that now it supports EDGE with video streaming, as well as A2DP Bluetooth profile for listening to music on a stereo Bluetooth headset.

The updated interface brings along the Media Editor application which would allow users rotate, sharpen or blur their images, or even add them frames and background colors. Furthermore, the handset would have up to 20MB of internal user memory as opposed to the 5MB in Motorola L7.

Other features of Motorola L7e are pretty much identical to those of the well-known L7 model. These are quad-band GSM/GPRS support, microSD memory card slot, and a miniUSB slot.

The Motorola L7e should be available by the end of 2006.

LG KE800 Chocolate Platinum

LG announced a major update to their famous Chocolate phone lineup featuring a serious face-lift and a heavy improvement of the available equipment. The new LGKE800 takes care of some the drawbacks the original LG Chocolate has in terms of functionality. This new baby would come armed with a spanking new 2 megapixel camera complete with auto focus and it Doesn't nearly end here.

The new LG Chocolate Platinum, produced under the designation KE800, would feature tri-band GSM/GPRS support, stereo Bluetooth support, FM radio and a microSD card slot. Moreover, it would have 256MB of integrated memory instead of 128MB, updated music player functionalities and a dedicated Flight mode.

It lacks 3G of course, but if you are into 3G, you might as well pick up , which is the 3G version of the original Chocolate phone that is to available by Christmas from Vodafone.

The Platinum version boasts not only updated equipment but also a total body change. The handset would be a tad larger than the original Chocolate phone but it would most surely compensate for that drawback since it boasts a TFT display with a QVGA resolution (240x320 pixels, as well as a boosted battery life of up to 270 hours stand-by time.

The LG Chocolate Platinum is expected to follow up the success of its predecessor, which has almost 3 millions sold worldwide.

In Europe LG would offer KE800 Platinum only in black and silver color combination, while in Korea the CDMA version of the KE800 would be offered in black with gold trimming.

LG Launches Black Label KE820 Chocolate

From the svelte, mocha-tastic KG800 Chocolates, LG seems to have taken a bitter bite with the new, card-sized KE820, the upgrade to the KG320. The 0.99cm thin phone isn't a slider, and although 'candy bar' would be more than a little appropriate, there's something about this new bar that isn't as appealing. A lot of that comes from the unusual arrangement of *, 0 and # keys on the keypad, but that's not all.

The KE820 gives you tri-band GSM/EDGE, 2-megapixel digital camera, a toothsome 128 MB of internal memory including a microSD/TransFlash memory card slot, MP3/AAC/WAV playback support, stereo Bluetooth A2DP, and last but not least, FM Radio. The display seems to be a grey area—it's either 144x176 or 220x176 (widescreen aspect ratio)—we've got no confirmation on that yet.

Launch dates and prices are not known at the moment.

The new Chocolate, named KU800 features a bunch of new features and clearly shows that this time it is aimed not only at the people with pure looks in mind but also ones that care about functionality. The LG KU800 comes equipped with the same touch-sensitive navigation keypad but has slightly larger dimensions. It has a 2 megapixel camera plus a secondary video call one, 3G support with streaming TV, a microSD card slot and finally, a battery with an enhanced capacity of 1050 mAh instead of 800 mAh.

Of course, the camera phones will come with rich 007 content such as wallpapers, ringtones, and full video movie trailer. The "Casino Royale" is due to be released globally on 17 November 2006 while the special edition Silver K800 and K790 Cyber-shot phones will be available for a limited period of 3 months during Q4 2006.

London, October 12, 2006 – Sony Ericsson today announced special silver versions of the K800 and K790 Cyber-shot™ camera phones as used by James Bond in the eagerly awaited new Bond movie, Casino Royale. These exclusive new camera phones which will be available for a limited period of three months, enable the world’s most famous secret agent to stay on top of the action with exactly the same sense of style and performance as Sony Ericsson phones bring to everyday life. So whether it’s ‘enemy surveillance’ or you just want to take high quality photos and share them instantly with friends and family, the Cyber-shot™ K800 and K790 phones are a must.

Casino Royale is released globally on 17 November 2006. Daniel Craig stars as "007" James Bond, the smoothest, sexiest, and most lethal agent on Her Majesty's Secret Service. Based on the first Bond book written by Ian Fleming, the story reveals the making of the world's greatest secret agent.

The silver K800 and K790 Cyber-shot™ phones are equipped with Bond wallpapers, music ringtones and the full video movie trailer. The phones also offer Picture Blogging for uploading photos to a personal online blogsite & PictBridge™ for printing direct to a printer, without the need for a PC or laptop.

Nokia N95

Nokia N95 is a descendant of Nokia N80 and offers a first of its kind 2-way sliding construction along with many other high-end features. The integrated GPS functionality has been becoming increasingly popular in hand-held devices. Embracing that trend, Nokia N95 comes with an integrated GPS module which working alongside with the preinstalled Maps application can help you navigate through the busy city streets as easy as you would with a in-dash automobile GPS system. Besides that, it's the first HSDPA (3.5G) mobile of the Finnish manufacturer. HSDPA is not so wide spread right now but undoubtedly it would be the leading standard for fast data transfers to mobile devices in the future. Besides HSDPA, Nokia N95 features all other current connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, 3G and EDGE, quad-band GSM, stereo Bluetooth, Infrared and USB 2.0 plus a TV-out port.

The all-around musical experience is enhanced by the presence of the built-in stereo speakers, a 3.5 mm audio jack for using regular headphones, FM radio and microSD memory card slot which currently means that the mobile can accommodate up to 2GB of additional memory besides the 160MB internal one. In an attempt to turn it into an all-time reigning multimedia champion, Nokia engineers have integrated into N95 an impressive 5 megapixel camera with Carl-Zeiss optics, autofocus and the capability of recording videos at DVD-like quality.

Having in mind all that, it comes as a pleasant surprise that the mobile has rather reasonable dimensions, being slimmer and even lighter than Nokia N80. The device is equipped with a large 2.6" TFT display with a QVGA (240x320) resolution.

Nokia N95 would be available in the first quarter of 2007 and is expected to hit the shelves at a price of 550 EUR.

Nokia E60

Nokia E60 is available on the market for some time now and offers the users powerful business solutions in almost every possible way. The tri-band phone has 3G UMTS network support and features a fabulous TFT 16 million colors display. E60 is based on the 3rd edition Series 60 and runs on Symbian OS 9.1. It has GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Infrared and USB support.

Key features:

Brilliant display
Symbian OS
Fast user interface
Very good web browser
RS-DV-MMC memory card slot
Office documents editor
64 MB internal memory
All connectivity options: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Infrared, USB
GPRS, EDGE and UMTS support

Main disadvantages:

Visually big dimensions
No camera
No FM radio
Tiny Profiles/Switch off button

Nokia made this phone's interface and functionality features remarkably like the N80 model. It only lacks the 3 megapixel camera but has a display with more colors. Both phones are of 3rd edition Series 60 with Symbian OS 9.1 and thus are very similar in terms of user interface. We will use part of the material for Nokia N80 in this review.

Elegant and clean
Nokia E60 looks very elegant and sophisticated. However, the silver phone reminds me of an old VCR remote control. The big dimensions of the phone are more of an optical illusion than real bulky size. Actually, the phone feels very comfortable when held in hand and there isn't even the slightest sign of the visually perceived big size. 115 x 49 x 17 mm and 117 g seem pretty normal for E60. Interesting fact is that not everybody who sees Nokia E60 thinks that it is a high-class phone with nice design, some consider the phone looks as cheap.
The very plain and clean design of Nokia E60 is eccentrically disturbed by the front silver frame which ends in its left side but merges with the lateral side on the right. Similar design solution is used for the battery cover. Another interesting thing about Nokia E60 is the two white lights which are located in the alphanumeric part of the keypad. They serve as additional light for the backlighting.

Solid as a rock
Nokia E60 is surprisingly solid. The phone is so well elaborated that it seems that its made of one big piece and then it has been cut down to its current form. There arent any gaps between the parts of the phone and it seems unbreakable. Moreover, the phone leaves the impression of safety and control in your hands. Nokia truly deserve admiration for this.

When you first grab E60 in your hands, the first thing you will notice is the enormous display. The 16 millions colors display covers half of the front side of the phone. Above the display there is only space for the speaker and a Nokia sign, both etched in the metal frame, which surrounds all elements on the phones face.

On top of the keypad there are the two soft keys and the green & red receiver keys with the navigation joystick between them. On the next row are the Pencil, Menu and C (correction) buttons. Below them are the numeric keys.

The back side design of Nokia E60 lacks imagination. It shelters another Nokia sign, the battery cover and collaborates with the top side for the two holes for a neck-strap. The battery cover, however, is interesting as it slides aside not downwards. When you remove it you will find the BL-5C Li-Ion battery of 970 mAh capacity. The manufacturer promises up to 290 hours of stand by time and 6 hours and 40 minutes of talk time with this battery and were prone to trust him. Nokia E60 managed very well during the test period and we had to recharge it only once.

Back side SIM card bed Memory card slot

The sides of the Nokia E60 body are made of silver and black plastic. The left side of the phone features the volume control keys and another button for voice recording. All buttons are made out of metal and look great.

Left side right side

The right side of Nokia E60 consists of three metal plates. The top one is short and beside it is the loudspeaker grill. Then there is a long one and the RS-DV-MMC memory card slot cover. It has a memory card picture on it so it cannot be mistaken. It is easily opened and closed but supposedly it can become loose or even brake off as the joint part of the card slot cover is not very reliable. When you open the cover, in order to get the memory card in or out, you should push it until it produces a snap sound. The method is similar to digital cameras.

The top side of the phone hosts one eyehole for the neck-strap and the Profile/Turn Off button. However, the traditional Nokia Profile/Switch Off button is really tiny this time. A good thing is that it bulges a bit from the surrounding surface but still, it is pretty small. The bottom side of the phone accommodates the Pop Port and the charger port.
