Sony Ericsson Black Diamond

blackdiamond.jpg

Singaporean industrial designer Jaren Goh's mocked up an extremely stylish concept for a Sony Ericsson cameraphone he's calling Black Diamond. The polycarbonate mirror finish skin, metal detailing and form factor are all rather sleek, but the coolest feature has got to be the OLED borderless screen. Very sexy!

These renders look like the old ones with a WM5 screenshot pasted on, and are supposed to illustrate what kind of crazy features this phone will have. Among them: 400MHz XScale PXA225 400MHz processor, WiFi, SD memory, 4 megapixel camera, SIP support, and a price tag of $300,000. Also, they're only making five of them.

blackdiamond-1.jpg
Not to be pessimistic, but the combination of crazy ass features—400MHz + 4 megapixel camera in that body makes what, 4 hours of battery life?—huge price tag, and limited production numbers make us think this is as much a pipe dream as Duke Nukem Forever making an Xmas 2006 release.

The new herald - HTC P4350

A new PocketPC by HTC is under way featuring a hardware QWERTY keyboard, a microSD memory card slot and a 2 megapixel camera. The new HTC P4350 is in a way a lite edition of the already available HTC TyTN based on the HTC Hermes platform and is in fact almost the same as Qtek 9100 based on the HTC Wizard platform. Since it is not fully identical to either of them, rumour has it, that the new P4350 is the first representative of the long awaited HTC Herald platform.

Just as Qtek 9100, the HTC P4350 has a TI OMAP 800 200MHz processor. There is a serious difference in size, though. The new P4350 is a good 6 mm thinner than Qtek 9100 and 4 mm thinner than HTC TyTN.

Otherwise, the new PocketPC features some standard equipment such as a large 2.8" touchscreen 65K colors TFT display with a QVGA resolution, 64MB RAM and 128MB ROM, quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE support, as well as Bluetooth 2.0, USB and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g. Both the Qtek 9100 and HTC P4350 don't have 3G UMTS support. As with most of the Windows Mobile 5.0, the P4350 makes use of nice office applications pack.

Currently, there is no official information on when the HTC P4350 PocketPC should be available on market.

Behold! The 1 GB SIM card from Samsung!

Samsung has just announced a huge, 1 GB S-SIM card that is slated to change the mobile phone market. Today’s high-end mobile phones carry two cards—a memory card and the standard SIM card—but now, the extra capacity on the new S-SIM card will replace the need for an extra memory-only card.

Photos, videos, music and other files can now be stored on the SIM card itself. This will remove the need to change a memory card when you switch to a different phone, which is a problem right now with the various memory card formats being adopted by different companies, such as MicroSD/TransFlash, Memory Stick Micro, MiniSD, MMC Micro, etc.

The new 1 GB S-SIM card utilizes System-in-Package (SiP) technology that enables it to carry the high-capacity NAND flash memory module without increasing the size of the standard SIM card. It supports the standard SIM interface, which makes it compatible with existing systems and also supports high-speed MMC and USB interfaces.

LG Ties up With Schneider-Kreuznach

LG's Shine was the first phone from the Korean manufacturer to offer a great quality camera in conjunction with Schneider-Kreuznach, and LG has decided to take it one step further by teaming up with the German lens manufacturer for more. The 2 megapixel digital camera with the Schneider-Kreuznach lens on the LG Shine has received some good feedback, so this is a good step for LG. This is also the second time such an association has been formed, with the first one being Nokia, of course, tying up with Carl Zeiss for their Nseries multimedia phones.

Sony announces 007 Micro Vault USB drive

Looking to leave no corner of your gadget bag untouched by its license to cash in, Sony is following up its Bond-themed laptop/digital camera bundle with a 007-branded Micro Vault USB drive. Available in only a 1GB model (Q would definitely not approve), the drive sports a sleek piano black finish and comes pre-loaded with the Casio Royale movie trailer, as well as four 1,920 x 1,080 Bond-related wallpaper images. Other than that, however, it's a standard Sony flash drive, with the trademark retractable USB connector and Virtual Expander compression software to squeeze as much data as possible onto the drive. No word on how much of a premium it'll cost you over a regular Micro Vault, if any, but it should be available sometime before the movie's premiere later this month.

Motorola unveiled the updated version of the popular Motorola L7. The new version is called Motorola L7e and features a number of upgrades. The updated interface brings along the Media Editor application which would allow users rotate, sharpen or blur their images, or even add them frames and background colors. Furthermore, the handset would have up to 20MB of internal user memory as opposed to the 5MB in Motorola L7.

The Motorola L7e should be available by the end of 2006.

LG KE800 Chocolate Platinum

LG announced a major update to their famous Chocolate phone lineup featuring a serious face-lift and a heavy improvement of the available equipment. The new LGKE800 takes care of some the drawbacks the original LG Chocolate has in terms of functionality. This new baby would come armed with a spanking new 2 megapixel camera complete with auto focus and it Doesn't nearly end here.

The new LG Chocolate Platinum, produced under the designation KE800, would feature tri-band GSM/GPRS support, stereo Bluetooth support, FM radio and a microSD card slot. Moreover, it would have 256MB of integrated memory instead of 128MB, updated music player functionalities and a dedicated Flight mode.

It lacks 3G of course, but if you are into 3G, you might as well pick up , which is the 3G version of the original Chocolate phone that is to available by Christmas from Vodafone.

The Platinum version boasts not only updated equipment but also a total body change. The handset would be a tad larger than the original Chocolate phone but it would most surely compensate for that drawback since it boasts a TFT display with a QVGA resolution (240x320 pixels, as well as a boosted battery life of up to 270 hours stand-by time.

The LG Chocolate Platinum is expected to follow up the success of its predecessor, which has almost 3 millions sold worldwide.

In Europe LG would offer KE800 Platinum only in black and silver color combination, while in Korea the CDMA version of the KE800 would be offered in black with gold trimming.
