Behold! The 1 GB SIM card from Samsung!

Samsung has just announced a huge, 1 GB S-SIM card that is slated to change the mobile phone market. Today’s high-end mobile phones carry two cards—a memory card and the standard SIM card—but now, the extra capacity on the new S-SIM card will replace the need for an extra memory-only card.

Photos, videos, music and other files can now be stored on the SIM card itself. This will remove the need to change a memory card when you switch to a different phone, which is a problem right now with the various memory card formats being adopted by different companies, such as MicroSD/TransFlash, Memory Stick Micro, MiniSD, MMC Micro, etc.

The new 1 GB S-SIM card utilizes System-in-Package (SiP) technology that enables it to carry the high-capacity NAND flash memory module without increasing the size of the standard SIM card. It supports the standard SIM interface, which makes it compatible with existing systems and also supports high-speed MMC and USB interfaces.
